He has 20 years of filtration experience, including air, liquid, transportation, and power generation. He serves as INDA Board of Directors and Massachusetts High Technology Council Board of Directors. He was the president of the high efficiency and specialty filtration division from 2009 to 2020. Mike was a strategy consultant for 8 years working with Fortune 100 manufacturing companies before joining H&amp;V. He received B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Poly-technic Institute, USA.</p>

<p class="font_8">Dr. Thomas Caesar is a renowned air filtration expert with almost 25 years of experience in the global filtration industry. He received a diploma in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Karlsruhe and his doctorate degree in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics from the University of Aachen (RWTH). Since 1999, Dr. Caesar has been employed by Freudenberg Filtration Technologies, a globally leading manufacturer of filtration solutions, where he has held various positions in sales and engineering. As Vice President Global Filter Engineering Industrial, he is currently responsible for the global technical product management and filter engineering in industrial filtration. Dr. Caesar is actively contributing to industry guidelines at VDI, VDMA, and Eurovent. He co-authors various European standards at CEN and international standards at ISO. In ISO, he serves as Convenor of WG12 “Sustainability” and was as project leader of part 1, intensely involved in the development of ISO 16890. Dr. Caesar is Chairman of the Product Committee “Air Filters” at Eurovent Certita Certification and Vice Chairman of the Product Group “Air Filter” at Eurovent Association.</p>

Latest Advancements of Clean Air Standards and Emerging Opportunities

<p class="font_8">Dr. Frauke Averbeck has a PhD in chemistry from the University of Goettingen, Germany, obtained in 2005. Since 2008, she is employed at the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) in Division 5, the Federal Office for Chemicals (BfC). According to the German Chemicals Act, the BfC is appointed as the German competent authority for the implementation of the European Chemicals Regulation REACH. In the group "Evaluation of Chemicals and Risk Management", Dr. Averbeck coordinates, among other things, the national activities as well as the joint work of the authorities of the cooperating Member States (Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway) within the framework of the EU-wide PFAS restriction proposal.</p>

<p class="font_8">Mr. Dennis Cook is a passionate patient safety advocate and patent holder who led the development of dozens of medical device products in respiratory, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. He is committed to providing an environment for creativity for product design while balancing regulatory requirements, delivering unmet market needs, and designing for manufacturing.<br>

<p class="font_8">Mr. Cook has a dual major in Respiratory Care and Business Management from Missouri State University. He started his career as a clinician and hospital administrator for the first seven years of his career, then transitioned to medical device manufacturing in 1995. There, he managed and developed adult, infant, and emergency medical ventilators and oxygen delivery devices. Mr. Cook was then elevated to leadership roles as VP of Marketing for Medline Industries and then President of the Respiratory Division. Mr. Cook then spent several years in Private Equity portfolio businesses, acquiring, integrating, and divesting businesses. After that, Mr. Cook co-founded a respiratory and anesthesia medical device manufacturer, D-R Burton Healthcare Products LLC, and led the development of several devices that received FDA clearance, followed by commercial success. Finally, Dennis is now the CEO of Superior Felt and Filtration, which has recently become a leading contract manufacturer<strong> </strong>of “Industrial Non-Wovens and Medical and Liquid filtration products.” This transformation for Superior Felt.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="font_8">Jon Douglas is the Director of Healthy Buildings Services and Solutions at Johnson Controls. Throughout his 30-year career in the HVAC&amp;R industry, he has established a reputation as an innovator. Jon has 42 patents issued and numerous others in process. He has a broad range of HVAC&amp;R experience; residential, light commercial RTUs, supermarket refrigeration, and large BAS systems. During the COVID outbreak, Jon studied the fundamentals of infection control in buildings and became JCI’s leading technical expert in clean air strategies for buildings. Jon is an active member of ASHRAE 241 and 62.1 Standards committees.</p>

Preparation for the Future: Introducing New ASHRAE Standard 241 and Its Application Opportunities

<p class="font_8"><strong>Dr. Greg Pierce is the co-director of the Luskin Center for Innovation and the director of the Human Right to Water Solutions Lab within the center. He is also the co-director of the UCLA Water Resources Group within the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, and serves as faculty in the department of urban planning. Since joining the Luskin Center in 2015, he has been instrumental in guiding the Center's leadership to produce rigorous, engaged research which informs drinking water system and Human Right to Water policy in California, as well as across the United States. He has authored 50+ peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous major research reports. His broader research interests lie at the intersection of public finance, infrastructure planning and environmental justice. Greg holds a PhD in Urban Planning from UCLA.</strong></p>

New Water Quality Regulations: Challenges and Opportunities in the United States

<p class="font_8">Dr. Paul Wiper is the Business Development and Project Manager at Molymem Ltd. responsible for the growth, deployment and commercial exploitation of the 2D membrane coating technology. Prior to this role, he was Application Manager at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) heading up the deposition and printing laboratories, which developed a range of 2D material applications and technologies across semiconductor and energy-storage sectors. In addition, Paul was the programme lead of an ERDF funded programme, Bridging The Gap. The aim of the programme was to work with Greater Manchester SMEs to develop and accelerate the commercialisation of graphene/2D materials products and processes. Prior to this role, he was the Business Engagement/Product Manager at AIXTRON UK Ltd. responsible for the sales and growth of the 2D/Nano division. Paul has PhD in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, has extensive research experience working with BP and Pilkington Glass (NSG) and has authored over 21 research publications.</p>

<p class="font_8">Mr. Luke Davies began working for Molymem in 2021, following on from the completion of a master’s degree in chemistry at The University of Manchester. He began his career at Molymem as an Application Scientist, focusing on the design and optimisation of 2D MoS2-based membranes for nanofiltration applications, pairing chemical functionalisation and characterisation to develop structure-performance relationships for these membrane systems. Luke currently works as a Laboratory and Project Manager for Molymem, working closely with the technical team to further develop Molymem’s technology in key application areas, and to scale the technology from the lab into practical membrane systems.&nbsp;</p>

New and Advanced 2D Membranes & Applications

<p class="font_8">Dr. Ian Chisem gained a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1996 in novel inorganic layered complexes and their use as environmentally-friendly catalysts. Post-doctoral research followed, in Green Chemistry, supported reagents and heterogenous catalysts. He later joined MEL Chemicals, a leading supplier of zirconium-based chemicals, where he developed new manufacturing processes for high surface area doped zirconium oxides used in automotive catalyst washcoats. In 2007 Ian joined Clear Edge, now part of Filtration Group, where he managed development projects across wet and dry filtration applications. Ian developed hot gas ceramic filters for industrial air pollution control, to meet rigorous legislative requirements. He held the position of CTO for the Longking-Clear Edge Chinese joint venture, having played a major role in establishing a new ceramic filter production facility. Following the formation of Ceramic Filter Alliance in April 2022, Ian joined the team as Technical Director, leveraging his many years of ceramic product knowledge and hot gas filtration experience to provide unparalleled service to customers.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="font_8">Cameron has gained significant experience developing air pollution control projects which utilize innovative technologies to solve complex problems. Born and raised in California, Cameron graduated from the California Maritime Academy with a BS in Mechanical Engineering before working on a wide range of air pollution control projects, including industrial flue gas treatment, diesel exhaust capture and control, and waste heat recovery. He has been involved from initial project conceptualization to final optimization in the field, helping clients achieve long term environmental compliance. In 2019, Cameron managed the largest ceramic filter system installation in North America; retrofitting a site to remove wet scrubbers and replacing it with advanced ceramic filter technology. At Precision Partners, Cameron works within multidisciplinary teams to support our clients in the integration of our innovative ‘Environmental Compliance as a Service’ (E-CaaS) solutions.</p>

Treatment of Residuals from Biogas Production

<p class="font_8">Mr. Fernando Suarez is a master graduate in Chemical Engineer from the University of Wales. &nbsp;He initiated his career as a desalination project manager at an AGBAR subsidiary in the Canary Islands, Spain. Since early 2000´s founded INEXA company as a provider of specialized engineering services in desalination technology. In 2006, INEXA carried out the first energy audit in the known "Las Palmas III" SWRO Desalination facility (80,000 m3/d). INEXA has been certified by Bureau Veritas as energy auditing specialist company for water infrastructure since 2018. As well as Fernando has led numerous international projects as EPC contractor and consultancy with references in Middle East, Africa &amp; South America; stressing his activity in SWRO plant retrofitting and O&amp;M consulting. At the moment he holds the position as main technical consultant in a SWRO desalination project of 180,000 m3/d in Morocco.</p>

Optimization Methodology for design and performance of SWRO Desalination Plants

<p class="font_8">Dr. Klaus Vossenkaul is an expert in membrane technology with more than 30 years of experience in the field of porous membranes, especially for wastewater treatment in so called membrane bioreactors (MBR). He has done his PHD in module design for ultrafiltration at the institute for process design (IVT) the University of Aachen (RWTH) working with Prof. R. Rautenbach, a pioneer and scientist in all fields of membrane technology. Klaus Vossenkaul then took over the leadership of the group for membranes in water and wastewater applications at the institute for process design (IVT/RWTH). After having developed the first plate module together with the company ROCHEM (Hamburg) he started his own membrane company PURON in 2001 to develop, produce and market a new hollowfiber module for MBR. Three years later he sold PURON to KOCH Industries and remained 5 years as managing director and head of R&amp;D with the successor company of PURON (Koch Membrane Systems GmbH). Two years later (2012) he started his second own membrane company: MEMBION. This time he had the vision to improve MBR-technology on all different levels to increase the overall economic efficiency.</p>

<p class="font_8">Mr. Zimmer is an experienced air filter specialist with more than 20 years of experience in the international ventilation industry. Since 2009 Mr. Zimmer has been employed by Camfil, an industry leading air filter manufacturer based in Sweden. He has held various positions within the Camfil Group and his current position is Vice President Global Product Management and International Standards. Mr. Zimmer serves actively in numerous working groups of several international standard committees including ISO TC142 (Cleaning equipment for air and other gases), CEN TC195 (Air filters for general air cleaning), CEN TC156 (Ventilation for buildings). Mr Zimmer is the convenor of the Ad Hoc WG Environmental product declarations for air cleaning equipment in CEN TC 195 as well as Vice Chairman of PC-Fil at Eurovent Certification. In addition, he is active in various international ventilation &amp; engineering industry associations and committees including Eurovent, EVIA, REHVA, Eurovent Middle East, Eurovent International, VDMA, FGK and EHEDG. In this context, Mr. Zimmer co-authored several guidebooks and technical guidelines related to air filtration and ventilation.</p>

Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for Air Filters –Upcoming Standards, Challenges and Opportunities

<p class="font_8">Dr. Al-Attar is a mechanical engineer and an independent air filtration consultant. He is also a Visiting Academic Fellow in the School of Aerospace, Transport, and Manufacturing at Cranfield University, consulting for air quality and filter performance relevant to land-based gas turbines. Dr. Al-Attar is the strategic director, instructor, and advisory board member of the Waterloo Filtration Institute. In 2020, Eurovent Middle East appointed Dr. Al-Attar as the first associated consultant for air filtration. Recently, he became the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) patron for EUROVENT. Dr. Al-Attar received his engineering degrees (BSc, MSc, Ph.D.) from the University of Toronto (Canada), Kuwait University, and Loughborough University (UK), respectively. Dr. Al-Attar is reading for an MSc in sustainable urban development for air quality inclusion at the University of Oxford.</p>
<p class="font_8">Dr. Al-Attar’s area of expertise focuses on the design and performance of high-efficiency filters for HVAC and land-based gas turbine applications, emphasizing the chemical and physical characterization of airborne pollutants. Dr. Al-Attar is a columnist in the Filtration News, Filtration + Separation, EUROVENT Middle East newsletter, Climate Control Middle East Magazine, ES Engineering, USA, and Caloryfrio Magazine, Spain. He has authored many articles on air quality, filter design, performance, particle characterization, and climate change, which were translated into Arabic, Portuguese, and Spanish. Dr. Al-Attar is an editorial member/referee in the Filtration Society (UK) and the Journal of Cleaner Production.</p>

Innovative policies and practices to embrace a Sustainable built environment for Air Quality inclusion

<p class="font_8">Dr. Katherine Ratliff is a Physical Scientist and Principal Investigator with EPA’s Homeland Security and Materials Management Division in the Center for Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response at the U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development. Dr. Ratliff has over 14 years of research experience, including six years working under the U.S. EPA’s Homeland Security Research Program, and provides technical support to a wide range of stakeholders. She uses laboratory and field-scale research studies along with numerical models to develop and evaluate strategies for remediating environmental contaminants, including a recent focus on leading EPA’s research to determine the efficacy of different air cleaning and treatment technologies against airborne pathogens. Dr. Ratliff earned her Ph.D. in Earth and Ocean Sciences from Duke University in 2017 and her B.A. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Vanderbilt University in 2011.</p>

<p class="font_8">Dr. Stephanie Taylor received her MD from Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts and subsequently practiced pediatric oncology while researching cellular growth control mechanisms for the next several decades.</p>
<p class="font_8">While taking care of hospitalized patients, she became increasingly convinced that the healthcare facility played a significant role in patient healing and in the healthcare-associated infections that far too many patients acquired during their in-patient treatment. Determined to gain a better understanding of the impact of the built environment on patient healing, she returned to school and obtained her Master's Degree in Architecture. With new insights from her education, she delved into research on the relationship between indoor environments and clinical outcomes of hospitalized patients. Her research revealed new findings on the powerful role of indoor air quality in driving acute infections, chronic inflammation, cognitive impairment, and a multitude of other diseases. Not surprisingly, she found that the conditions that influence patient outcomes also contribute to health or disease in occupants of all building types.</p>
<p class="font_8">In 2019 Dr. Taylor founded <strong>Building4Health, Inc.</strong> to scale the powerful yet underutilized approach of managing IAQ from a medical perspective to truly support occupant health.</p>
<p class="font_8">To communicate the fascinating convergence of human health, microbiology and architecture, Dr. Taylor writes monthly columns and bi-annual feature articles for Engineered Systems Magazine and publishes in other healthcare journals. She is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer and is on the Environmental Health Committee. She is also a member of the US Green Building Council technical advisory board on Indoor Air Quality.</p>

Her work continues to advance building science methods in assessing performance-based procedures to design and operate buildings to optimize energy and people efficiency. Dr. Zaatari is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer and a Voting Member of several ASHRAE Committees, such as ASHRAE Standard 241, 185.5, EHC, TC 2.3 (Chair), etc. She is also a Member of Board of Directors at USGBC and a Member of USGBC Green Schools, School Air Quality Leaders Network: Technical Advisory Committee. Dr. Zaatari earned a PhD in Architectural and Environmental Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin with a focus on the built environment and a master’s degree in engineering management from The American University of Beirut, Lebanon with a focus on energy management.</p>

<p class="font_8">Dr. Terrence (Terry) J. Collins, Hon FRSNZ, is the Teresa Heinz Professor of Green Chemistry and the Director of the Institute for Green Science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (IGS: https://www.cmu.edu/igs/). Terry was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, and is a citizen of both New Zealand and the United States. He holds numerous academic and public awards and is the lead inventor of TAML activators, small-molecule, functional replicas of the peroxidase enzymes that mimic mechanistically and outperform the enzymes. Terry taught the first course in green chemistry, now called “Chemistry and Sustainability”, which he has been developing iteratively since 1992.</p>

New Challenges and Opportunities in Water Filtration

<p class="font_8">Mr. Tyler Smith is the Vice President, Healthy Buildings at Johnson Controls. He has spent over 18 years with Johnson Controls in roles focused on leveraging building management systems and HVAC equipment to drive important outcomes such as improvements in energy efficiency and indoor air quality. From 2018 to 2020, Tyler led Johnson Controls’ Critical Environments business unit, which designs and manufactures systems for critical spaces such as hospitals and laboratories. Since late 2020,Tyler has led Johnson Controls’ Healthy Buildings initiative with a focus on helping customers realize productivity and financial outcomes associated with operating healthier buildings. With a background deeply rooted in buildings, HVAC and controls, Tyler brings a unique voice to WFI. We expect to leverage his experience and network at Johnson Controls to ensure our educational and advocacy campaigns are comprehensive and aligned with current buildings-market trends. Tyler has an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Emory University. He resides in Nashville, Tennessee, USA with his wife and two children.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="font_8">Dr. Ramaswamy has over 39 years of combined extensive experience in various IAQ and filtration-related areas of Engineering in India and Oman. He received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India, in Mechanical Engineering, currently working as the technical director of Level Engineering LLC, an MEP consultancy and skill development training organization based in Oman. Dr. Ramaswamy has published over 100 research papers in international journals and conferences and authored six engineering-related books. Dr. Ramaswamy has designed a few of the largest utility plants in South East Asia. He is on the visiting faculty and the Technical advisory board of various technical universities in India and Oman, where he has guided many Ph.D. students. He is a member of multiple international professional organizations holding charter engineer status from U. K. and India. He is the reviewer and editorial board member of many international technical journals and has delivered over 100 keynote lectures at various international conferences and meetings. Dr. Ramaswamy's name is listed in the WHOSWHO directory. He is active in many regional and global communities to help them embrace sustainable and healthy living.</p>
